Les Cayes Medical Clinic, Part 1
The medical clinic in Les Cayes began in earnest the moment the team unpacked. The community was receptive, and they welcomed us warmly. But what began as a slow trickle soon filled the small church to capacity for the remainder of the day. Many patients came from miles away in order to see a medical practitioner without assurance they would receive treatment. But the Among The Reeds team was determined. They would see everyone.
The ATR team was joined by two medical practitioners, Debi Lammert and Adeline Barber, whose expertise and service proved invaluable throughout the remainder of their time with the team.
While the ATR medical practitioners were prepared to see patients with basic concerns, they were not equipped as a mobile surgical hospital. This was exacerbated by the severity of maladies to which the team was exposed. In one case in particular, a woman arrived with gangrene in her right foot. The team was left with no choice but to drive her some distance away to a hospital where she could receive complimentary and proper ongoing treatment.
